This Bill is so important for us at Essential Care Visitor. It is based on our Story.
We began this Journey in on March 12, 2020 when our Facility told us we could not visit and provide care for our loved one indefinitely. We wrote a New York Times Article speaking for the Vulnerable that lived in our community that was terribly hit with COVID-19. We began to introduce to our State Legislature the reality that many vulnerable residents survived based on the care executed by their Essential Care Visitor. Without this bridgecare ~ our disabled loved ones experience accelerated decline and deteriorate.
We wrote our Testimonial and submitted it to the Legislative Director in Senator Rachel May's Office. We do not believe care is political - nor did we have any stance on politics. Further, are we lobbyists. But, we did know that Essential Care Visitors were not being acknowledged in history or considered in the integral care of our loved ones.
We wrote an Essential Care Visitor Document for our State Legislature - and the first version of the Bill that Senator May put forth was on September 2, 2020. Suddenly, many other Assemblymen and other Senators, wanted to write their own in response to their Districts.
We waited and waited. And, had a Rally on September 12, 2020 in front of Governor Cuomo's Office asking for an Executive Order on the Bill. We organized another Rally on October 14, 2020 at the State Capital. We waited through the Elections. Finally, we sponsored a March 12, 2021 Remembrance Rally in front of the Albany Capitol for all those lost and isolated.
And, today we are thrilled to announce - that Senator Rachel May's Personal Caregiver Bill has been signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on March 29, 2021~we will never be locked out again!
We began this Journey on March 12, 2020 - We did it!!!!
